well as what the underlying reasoning is when these types of conversation take place. ABOUT THE ESSAY This thought-provoking article raises questions about something that everyone knows
about but few have questioned. The fact that in the locker room men tend to talk about their conquests in the field of love and describe the exploits in
graphic detail. The author questions what the true meaning of this is and why this takes place. Interestingly, the author realizes that while these conversations are considered
the norm for locker rooms, there are other places where the topic is off-limits. In some cases one will have a special best friend who is not privy to
this type of in-depth heart-to-heart talk. In the almost anonymous setting of the locker room, however, a male will oftentimes describe details of a date among virtual strangers.
While these are indeed people he competes with in sports, they are not always close friends or people with whom one spends a lot of time off the field. Why
would a male go into sexual detail about his relationship on a date? Is it to brag, or to sound powerful, or to seek admiration? The author ponders
this question and several others throughout the essay. Ultimately the author considers it a type of power a male must exert in order to assure himself the female has
no power over him. For instance, many feel that if they fall in love with a girl they are losing some of their power or are no longer one
