or rather they are infamous due to their subject matter. Lizzie Bordens trial occurred in the 19th century. O. J. Simpsons trial occurred in the 20th century. Lizzie Borden was accused of killing her father and stepmother. O. J. Simpson was accused of killing Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ronald Lyle Goldman. Both of the murders were gruesome. The case against Lizzie Borden took place in Fall River, MA. The case against O. J. Simpson took place in Los Angeles, CA. While Los Angeles is quite large, and the home of many, Fall River is quite a bit smaller. It was brought notoriety by the murders of Mr. and Mrs. Borden. According to Eaton (1995), there are many similarities between the cases of Lizzie Borden and O. J. Simpson. The following statement sounds like it describes the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Lyle Goldman, but it actually describes a crime committed more than a century earlier: "The public was hungry for the gruesome details of the double murders, and the press was prepared to satisfy that hunger with saturation coverage" (12). The earlier crime was the one in which Lizzie Borden was accused of the brutal murder of her father and stepmother. Lizzie Bordens trial occurred in 1893 (Eaton, 1995, 12). Simpsons trial was also well covered by the media. Unlike the Borden trial, however, the Simpson trial included television coverage. The only reason for this, is that television had not been invented during the time of Lizzie Borden.
