I am a female and my background is English, Irish, German and American Indian. While I am peripherally aware of the fact that my make up is much like members
of the community, it is not something that is the forefront of my individual life experience. In other words, in this community that is predominantly white, there is a meld
of people and I rarely think about my own ethnicity. The members of my community look somewhat like me. Close to 74% are white according to figures from the Census
Bureau for 2006 ("Los Angeles County QuickFacts," 2007). Yet, while that is the case, a large number of that figure is Hispanic ("Los Angeles County QuickFacts," 2007). Hence, while I
can identify with the people of the community, to an extent, I do look a bit different simply due to the large influx of Spanish Americans. While that is the
case, I do not stand out. I do have dark hair and blend in quite nicely with the majority. I do feel as if I can say that I
am from L.A. and no one gives me a second long. I feel as if I belong here. How do leaders of the community treat me? How do they treat
people who are in the minority or very different from me? It seems as if leaders of the community are engaged in a variety of projects but I have not
had much experience with them. I know that for example, John Mack is the leader of the Urban League and has done a great deal for this community ("Urban league
president named trustee," 2007). He seems to treat all people fairly and I have noticed that my community does see a range of leaders in terms of race and ethnicity,
