It is a relatively simple novel, but yet a novel that speaks of a society in history and of the women who lived in this society. It is a highly
enjoyable novel and has stood as a very intriguing story that many have turned into film. The following paper compares and contrasts the novel and the 1994 film directed by
Gillian Armstrong. The paper also discusses the elements of feminism in the film as offered up by Armstrong. Little Women: Novel and Film In offering up a comparison
and contrast of the film and the novel this paper will predominantly rely on critical reviews of the two. In presenting the discussion in such a manner the student will
thereby gain several different perspectives about what the novel and the film have in common and where the two are different. Louisa May Alcotts novel is a story that
takes place during the Civil War. It is set in a quiet town in Massachusetts where 4 sisters live with their mother while the father is off with the war
efforts. It is a household of women and young girls and they live meekly and in poverty for the most part, entertaining themselves as best they can. They
are pleasant individuals who go through many different dilemmas, relatively simple dilemmas in the beginning. They become friends with Laurie, Theodore, who is the son of a rich man and
thus lives in a world different than theirs(Books and Writers). The girls simply adore Laurie. One daughter, Meg, marries the teacher of Laurie and another, Beth, who has been an
