style. According to Buckland, no one wrote more unevenly than Jack London and as a writer, he was sometimes awkward (420). At other times, he was quite effective (420).

Jack London addresses themes of man against nature. He writes about a situation in the wilderness where there is deadly cold. Ones life is at stake as the narrator expresses
the fact that a man will actually freeze to death if he cannot get a fire going. The story is one about a man dying of hypothermia and
is quite extraordinary. It presents challenges to the mind and spirit. What would one do in such a situation? Part of the problem
