the former. Discussion There is no way that this book can be considered objective or non-political because Limbaugh makes his living as a champion of conservatism. In short, he preaches
that conservatives are always right and liberals are always wrong. He lays all the problems of the United States at the feet of liberal politicians, academics, and women, and criticizes
them harshly and relentlessly for what he sees as their destruction of the American way of life. Therefore, the book will likely have appeal only to Rushs fans and those
who already think the same way he does. Liberals will be appalled - or amused - or perhaps disgusted by his bombast. There can be no doubt that the U.S.
is facing grave issues, Limbaugh is correct in that. But his view of things is unrealistic in that its far too simple. For him, everything is right or wrong, black
or white, there are no shades of grey and no room for doubt about anything. The books strength is undoubtedly Limbaughs use of humor; he can be very funny at
times. But this is offset by the numerous weaknesses of the book, such as its almost incoherent structure and, even worse, Limbaughs habit of bellowing his unsupported opinions as if
they were facts. Perhaps the most egregious of his faults is his constant attacks on people and things he dislikes. When he refers to well-educated professors as "fuzzy-headed academicians" and
officials in the Clinton administration as "near-sighted pointyheads" its time for a reader to take a step back and consider just whats going on here. And whats going on is
clear: Limbaugh is taking his radio talk-show opinions and putting them in print. For him, women who want some control over their own destiny are "Feminazis"; environmentalists are "tree-huggers," Medicare
