impossible, so this can really only be considered a list, not a comprehensive explanation. To begin, the word Renaissance is French for "rebirth," and "perfectly describes the intellectual and economic
changes that occurred in Europe from the fourteenth through the sixteenth centuries" (Renaissance-Introduction, 2008). Most people, however, associate the Renaissance with the changing styles in art more than in any
other area. The Renaissance marked the passage of Europe from the "stagnant" Middle Ages to a much more robust time of financial growth; in addition, "artistic, social, scientific and political
thought turned in new directions" (Renaissance-Introduction, 2008). Current events/daily life: Daily life was very hard in the Middle Ages; the society was feudal and the nobles provided protection for the
king, who gave them land in exchange (Renaissance-Out of the Middle Ages, 2008). Peasants "worked the land for the nobles," who in turn protected them and gave them their own
tiny parcels of land to work (Renaissance-Out of the Middle Ages, 2008). Neither the peasants nor the nobles had an easy life, though it was harder on the peasants, who
literally worked sunup to sundown (Renaissance-Out of the Middle Ages, 2008). There was a small middle class in the cities where life was somewhat easier, and "individuals had the freedom
to pursue whatever trade or industry they liked" (Renaissance-Out of the Middle Ages, 2008). Things changed dramatically when the Plague struck Europe during 1350-1450, and killed perhaps half the
