the learning process into the context of discover. My pursuit of a medical school degree extends from my continued desire to place my learning process in the context of
discovery and to develop an inquisitive, distinct and developed sense of self. As a graduate student of public health, I have sought a variety of ways of exposing myself
to new experiences as a part of my pursuit of a life in discovery. At the same time, I have found that a part of the role of health
care professionals in public health is the process of fostering growth and discovery in others, creating a method for cycling positive learning experiences through programming. Specifically, I was recently
selected by the Mercer Public Health Association (MPHA) to co-direct two breast cancer awareness seminars, the direct result of an $11,000 grant from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
The goal of this project is to empower African American women, often under-served in middle-Georgia, to take control of their own breast health by learning to perform regular self-examinations.
In maintaining a life in discovery, it is necessary to recognize that the support of others in the same pursuit the growth and discovery of others. In the public
health arena, creating instructional programs that help others learn more about threatening health conditions and preventative measures are factors that support this kind of directive. My own process of discovery
and personal growth is based in three fundamental personal goals. Accepting that learning is not a static process that ends once educational achievement has occurred is clearly necessary in
