individual personality characteristics and psychological makeup. Some people are more likely to be able to handle stress well while others struggle with ordinary aspects of daily life. In addition to
how well individuals handle stress is the concept of life stressors. There are formulas to determine how much stress a person is handling at any given moment. This is generally
related to life events such as divorce, a death of a close family member, unemployment or relocation. These are usually important things that impact life for months or years. These
significant life events, coupled with lifestyle and demographic factors, act as predictors for stress. In examining this issue, one might wonder whether or not life stressors are different for men
and women. In general, major life stressors fall into the occupational and financial camps (Bleckman & Brownell, 1988). When it comes to gender, there are differences in stressors, something that
may be attributable to different lifestyles among the sexes (Bleckman & Brownell, 1988). Today, women are career oriented, but it is also the case that many more women do stay
home and raise children where the source of the males dominance, and where he gets his self-esteem tweaked, is from his working environment. Some gender research does claim that the
costs and rewards of marriage are in fact attached to gender, and this is particularly true of older adults who have maintained gender-based households (Bernard, 1972 as cited in Pudrovska,
