their presentation of pop art elements. Their works are vibrant, colorful and incredibly intense in subtle and obvious ways. The following paper compares and contrasts Roy Lichtensteins Masterpiece and Takashi
Murakamis Castle of Tin Tin. Lichtenstein and Murakami Lichtenstein "is best known for his paintings of what appear to be machine-printed
comic strips, although he was also fond of depicting advertisements" (Esaak, 2007). He had a sense of humor in his work, sometimes very wry as can be seen in this
particular painting. In Masterpiece there is a cartoon-like image of a man and a woman and the woman has a cartoon speech bubble wherein she is stating, "WHY, BRAD DARLING,
THIS PAINTING IS A MASTERPIECE. MY SOON YOULL HAVE ALL OF NEW YORK CLAMORING FOR YOUR WORK." It is clearly a comical portrayal of the importance of being popular in
the art world, and the perhaps arrogant and presumptious nature of that art world. It pokes fun at the world that Lichtenstein was obviously a part, but yet is very
comical and bold. There is clear humor in the work of Murakami as well. His piece under examination here has what has
come to be called DOB which is a character he created. It is "an all-purpose character that Murakami first made manifest in 1993. A Disney-esque muppet thing derived partly from
a monkeylike figure the artist saw in Hong Kong" (Saltz, 2000). He is possessed of all head and could well look like a dragon, especially in this painting, but possesses
