of education to become a librarian, perhaps as much as a teacher, and thus are very skilled and intelligent people. "Librarianship is a rapidly evolving, and often misunderstood area of
work and research" (Kent State University, 2005). They are trained to not only know how to search and study, but also trained in helping people. Librarians are very much teachers
in our society in many different ways. The following paper examines how librarians are teachers. Librarians as Teachers One of the most obvious ways in which a librarian is
a teacher is in helping patrons learn how to use the library itself. A librarian is in charge of knowing how to run various types of machines, as well as
computers, and also knows various forms of searching techniques. When asked they will impart this knowledge to the patrons of a library. Many people do not see the librarian
as a teacher because they often sit there quietly and do their job. They do not, like regular teachers, gather the people together to instruct them, but rather wait to
be approached. When they are approached, however, they will do whatever they can to teach the inquirer what they need to know. If a patron needs to know how to
search for a particular topic, a librarian can and will often teach them. If a patron needs to know how to use microfiche readers, the librarian will teach them how
