their ideas and beliefs and yet remained true to themselves by publishing their ideas in works which would come to represent the ideas and notions of nearly an entire political
party. History of John Locke John Locke was born in 1632, the son of a small landowner (The Life of John
Locke, 2002). He eventually earned his medical degree and occasionally practiced, which led to an acquaintance with Lord Ashley (The Life of John Locke, 2002). This relationship would
have a huge impact on his career (The Life of John Locke, 2002). Locke soon became a member of Lord Ashleys household where he was regarded as indispensable (The
Life of John Locke, 2002). He came to assist the Lord in nearly all matters, both personal and professional (The Life of John Locke, 2002). Therefore, as Lord
Ashley came to enter public service, it made sense that Locke would follow him as his assistant (The Life of John Locke, 2002).
Within a short time however, Locke was relieved of his public duties, and left England due to the ill effects of the climate on his health (The Life
of John Locke, 2002). He went to France and settled there for the time, although he would return to England again when Lord Ashley resumed office for a short
