Essay / Research Paper Abstract
5 pages in length. Liberalism, the fundamental basis upon which American political thought was conceived, expects much from its constituents while at the same time giving little to those who do not embrace its philosophy. This, in fact, is what has been brought to task time and again about the vastness of its principles: does liberalism's steadfast composition prohibit followers from accepting or even acknowledging non-liberal cultures, or does extreme regard for multiculturalism stand to weaken the very foundation of America's alliance? Inasmuch as the United States Constitution appeals both to unity and the preservation of varied and unorthodox ethical populations, it stands to reason why - no matter how closely consolidated liberalism, democracy and religion may become - there will always remain a permanent rift between and among them given the overriding tenet that maintains distinct separation of church and state. and basics of traditional American liberalism gave direct rise to the ideals and concepts of individual political freedom and its intimate connection with economic freedom (Tinder 2000). However, this
rebirth also led to a suffocating individualism that ultimately overshadowed the very reason liberalism had been embraced in the first place. The spirit of liberalism holds in its heart
the development of individual freedom; as the concepts of freedom change throughout history, so too do the concepts of liberalism. Liberalism seeks to change in order to improve.
Assuming people maintain a rational intellect and have the ability to recognize and solve problems, it can reflect systematic improvement within the human condition (Galli 2008). However, there are
