Clark, Sacajawea and their important contributions to American history (Burns, 1997). While we have all heard about their lives in history classes, this film allows viewers to immerse themselves
in the characters of who these people were, and to understand their perspectives and motivations. Viewers feel like they are actually accompanying these early explorers on their journey as
they seek to discover new places. The movie is narrated by Hal Holbrook, but the entire cast if noteworthy actors work
together to produce a truly unique film experience (Burns, 1997). While the actors are not actually seen on screen, the director decided to creative use silhouettes while the actors
narrate the individual parts (Burns, 1997). Interestingly, the director of this film has interwoven many historical elements which further work to integrate the old history with the new interpretation,
and the effect is spellbinding (Burns, 1997). Furthermore, there has been little mention of these explorers in prior films, so the devotion of such a major production to Lewis
and Clark elevates these men from the pages of history books and instills life and energy into their characters. This film
follows the expedition of these men, going in sequential order to the actual places the "real" Lewis and Clark had many years before (Burns, 1997). The viewer sees and
experiences what the men did - from the happy times to the anxieties and fears (Burns, 1997). Relationships are re-created to reveal the actual ones which the explorers had
formed, and tremendous insights are offered (Burns, 1997). What is revealed through this film is far more than their journey alone, but well-researched insight into the very different personalities
