Essay / Research Paper Abstract
An 8 page paper discussing primary and tertiary levels of prevention of family violence, and the other areas of the community on which family violence can have a negative effect. Prevention measures aimed at lessening the individual and community effect of family violence should have measurable benefits in that area, of course, but they also will spill over into other areas of the community. Effective primary and tertiary prevention interventions can extend to reduced demand on health care services, mental health services and social programs resulting from economic stagnation. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

in that it brings a measure of security to those threatened by family violence, but police involvement does not fall into the realm of primary prevention. Police become involved
only after the fact; primary prevention lies in increasing awareness and offering alternative means of dealing with a violent family member.
Tertiary The third level of prevention, tertiary prevention, aims to reduce the consequences of the conditions that already exist (Tertiary Prevention, 2002).
