My research reveals that those working to combat this barbaric and mutilating - and often illegal - practice are making only marginal gains in some areas, while in other areas
the prevalence and incidence of female circumcision actually has increased over the past several years. I am writing to you because of your
dedication to womens rights and the position you hold, one from which "something" can be done. I will propose an approach, but first let me provide you with information
about this heinous practice that leads many of its victims into posttraumatic stress disorder (Behrendt and Moritz, 2005). Female Circumcision Female circumcision, more
commonly known as female genital mutilation (FGM), is the practice whereby female genitalia are surgically altered for cultural reasons and for tradition. There are several types of FGM, ranging
from the two small cuts favored by the Bedouin of Israel (Asali, et al., 1995) to nearly total lack of normal function. The most common types of FGM are
