they have the right to tell others what they can and cannot do are attempting to once again repress the evolution of what has been vigorously kept from the female
gender for centuries. Psychologist, sex therapist and president of the International Academy of Sex Research Leonore Tiefer asserts that sexually related expression is
a most beneficial means for women, who stand to find themselves in more danger by being sequestered from sexually explicit materials than from their free expression. In order to
incorporate a healthy mind and body, such controversial ideas and images must be freely available if women are to emerge from their long-standing sexual ignorance and shame (Anonymous, no date).
Because pornography draws its source from fantasy, sexually explicit material must never be suppressed for fear that women will never have the vital opportunity to gain knowledge about themselves
and their sexuality, an enlightenment they might not otherwise come to know. Assistant history professor Alison Parker contends the concentrated efforts of the
anti-pornography feminists divert the publics attention from "constructive approaches to countering discrimination and violence" (Taylor, 1997) against women. Rather than draw away from these important issues for the sake
of clamoring about sexually explicit material, attention should be focused on much more important concerns pertaining to womens struggles elsewhere in society, such as wide spread discrimination and segregation in
both education and employment. At stake with the topic of pornography censorship is the very foundation upon which this country was formed: freedom.
