business. These were stereotypes, for sure, but they did distinguish each party and provided insight into the types of laws elected legislators would approve and what actions the President would
most likely take in different situations. Wilson (2006) points out that there was more similarity between the ideals of each party long ago. It was more of a centrist
position where compromise might be an option but that does not seem to be the case any longer. Democrats seem to have gone much further over to the left and,
in some instances, republicans drift more to the right. Neither position is good for the average American and the average Americans plea to their representatives to think about the people
more than they think about party has gone ignored. Today, money and the power of special interest groups guides the laws that are enacted. And, this is not confined
to Republicans who were once thought to care more about the wealthy than the average person. Democrats are under the influence of lobbyists and other groups. Most Americans think politicians
are corrupt and with good reason. While Wilson (2006) provided a historical picture of the polarization between political parties in this country, we need only look at the most recent
controversy - health care reform. All media reported secret meetings among the Democrats just before Christmas. How can you as the chairman of this party condone secret meetings on a
bill that is so huge and that will affect every single American in one way or another. This bill needed bipartisan work and support. It is long past time
