well?despite the fact that quite a few of them are admitted murderers. Her tales of courtroom drama are highly engrossing and Abramson is articulate and entertaining. However, as one
begins her book, the reader may quickly feel that there are distinct problems in the stance that she takes towards her clients?not from a legal standpoint, Abramson is an
advocate, par excellence?this problem concerns the stance that Abramson assumes towards morals and issues of responsibility. The American system of jurisprudence requires that a lawyer defend a client to
the very best of their ability. Abramson lives up to this principle quite admirably. Throughout her narrative, she helps the reader to understand how society is culpable through the prevalence
of poverty , drugs and violence in aiding and abetting the waste of young lives. However, in her effort to be an advocate for her client and represent that
clients interest thoroughly, Abramson completely avoids the issue of personal responsibility. Its never the fault of the defendant that hes in trouble, but rather Abramson holds society responsible for creating
the conditions that warped the defendants life. While Abramson certainly has a point, it can only go so far. She often finds it difficult to subjugate her personal perceptions to
what she knows she must do as a lawyer. Abramson begins with describing her defense of Roman Luisi, a young bodybuilder who was working as a nightclub bouncer. While
on the job, Luisi was confronted with three men whom he had previously expelled from the nightclub. Luisi claimed that one of them pulled a gun on him, and that
he fired back in self-defense. Luisi fired fifteen rounds and killed two of the men. Abramson comments that there was "no evidence that the other side" got off even one
