times stem cell research has become a very important, and controversial, scientific pursuit. There are many individuals who believe that human beings do not have the right to essentially play
God and manipulate human cells in order to improve health and lengthen lives of individuals by the use of stem cells, especially if those stem cells are obtained from embryos.
There are, however, many others who believe that stem cell research is crucial to the health of the world, and through stem cell research many diseases and conditions can be
treated, if not eliminated. The following paper examines the topic of stem cell research primarily through a look at the legislation involved with the research. Legislation on Stem
Cell Research For the most part stem cell research is generally conducted through the use of embryonic stem cells from humans. The cells used are called master cells and they
are used to research various diseases and illnesses since the cells are capable of being developed into any human cell. The stem cells that have, for much of the history
of the research, been used have been very limited. Duffy (2002) noted that the stem cells number was 64. All research is done from these particular stem cells. These particular
stem cells come from "one week old embryos (blastocysts) created via in vitro fertilization (IVF) to treat infertility; five to nine week old embryos or fetuses obtained through elective abortion;
