amount of health benefits, whereas marijuana has demonstrated such. In many ways the fight to legalize marijuana has received even more negative attention as it is seen as an equivalent
of smoking tobacco, as well as a gateway to other drug use which may prove incredibly harmful. The truth, however, is that marijuana use should be legal, especially in light
of the fact that smoking tobacco and drinking alcohol have proven far more detrimental to ones health than marijuana use. In the following paper we provide some information on tobacco
and alcohol as it relates to marijuana. The paper also examines some legal aspects and more importantly health aspects of marijuana use, which is far more positive than can be
found in relationship to alcohol and tobacco. In addition the paper offers an examination of costs involved with the incarceration of marijuana users, demonstrating that the government and the economic
condition of the country would be far better off if marijuana were legalized. Alcohol and Tobacco Tobacco is a substance that has always been associated with the civilization
of a society. Yet, it appears that once a society is considered civilized it then decides, and honestly so, that tobacco is harmful. But, tobacco cannot be abolished, for it
is too firmly grounded in the cultures of many societies around the world, providing us with the reason why some substances, such as tobacco and alcohol are accepted while such
substances as marijuana are not. We, as citizens of the United States, have learned that trying to abolish such a substance, such as alcohol, has proved futile. So, we find
