if a US firm wants to export any goods to do with information technology or any high tech products the likelihood is that they will need an export license (Armbruster,
2008). The aim of the measures are to "prevent U.S. technology and high-tech products with either direct or indirect potential military applications from getting into the wrong hands" (Armbruster, 2008).
However, in many instances it acts as a barrier to the way that exports can take place, as gaining a license can involve a great deal of time and a
lot of paperwork, which can also be costly due to the time and resources it takes to complete. The requirement for export licenses are not limited to high tech
industries, there many other areas of commerce where export licenses are required, such as within the oil and gas industry (Dittrick, 2008) as well as other areas. It is not
only the goods that be exported that will be subject to export licensing requirements, the country that the goods are to go to may also have an impact, as De
Monte found when they wanted to export food to Iran (Anonymous, 2007). A license is required to export to Iran as they are classified as supporting terrorism, and any firm
needs to renew this license annually (Anonymous, 2007). Del Monte found that even where there were no objections by the state department, there can be delays, in this case the
