21 is a good age and should remain as the legal drinking age in the nation for a variety of reasons. People argue that until a person has been out
on their own in the world for a few years they cannot really act responsibly where alcohol is concerned. At the same time there are those who argue that 18
should be the legal drinking age, and they argue this case for many reasons. It is clearly something that "involves issues of freedom, responsibility, parental rights, religion, politics and many
other realms of life" (Hanson, 2006). The following paper presents the argument that the legal drinking age in the United States should be 18. Legal Drinking Age 18
One of the most obvious arguments in favor of allowing the legal drinking age to be 18 is that which applies to the fact that people who are 18,
men in particular, are required to sign up as eligible for entering into warfare and the armed forces. If they are old enough to fight for their country, old enough
to kill others and to be killed, then surely they should be old enough to bear the responsibility of drinking alcohol. Becoming part of the armed forces, and making
powerful choices such as engaging in warfare through bearing a weapon one would clearly assume that such an individual is mature enough to handle drinking alcohol. Dealing with the reality
of warfare demands a great deal from a young adult. Drinking does not. There are simple choices, obvious choices that can and are made in relationship to drinking alcohol and
in the case of warfare the choices are incredibly complex and overwhelming. So, if an individual is given the right to bear arms and fight in a war they should
