no one can call me names or abandon me; no one can punish me-though they can still judge me. And they do, over and over again, calling me "Commie" and
"faggot" and "traitor" and all the other names that people use when they want to vent, not think. As if screaming louder than anybody else makes them important, as if
their screech monkey gibbering could lead to the truth. The funny thing is, I didnt hate JFK. I thought he was a breath of fresh air, a man who
really cared about the people, all of the people, black and white, rich and poor, everybody. And he was smart, too, and his brother Bobby was smart and Jackie was
a real class act. They were golden, and they gave us all hope. Im biased, but it always seems to me that its the Democrats who bring hope with them,
and the Republicans who come into the White House on a wave of fear. Couple that with the fundamentalist Christianity that so many conservatives espouse and you have a recipe
for disaster. But the crap thats going on today isnt my problem. No, you want to know how I came to shoot JFK when he was a man I
admired, right? OK, then, here goes. First off, you have to understand that my life sucked. I know thats not an excuse because there are plenty of people who have
a rotten childhood and turn out just fine. Maybe theyre braver than I was, or maybe they just found whatever it was that they needed to really make things work
