a decision for the truth and open air preaching. Of course, the last lecture in this series is historical. Jesus preached in the open air more often than not as
did the Apostles. Spurgeon traces the history back to Enoch, Noah, Moses and the prophets. In his lecture, "The Holy Spirit in connection with our Ministry", Spurgeon makes the
general assumption that since he is preaching in a pastoral college that all students firmly believe in the Holy Spirit and that they have indeed felt His presence and guidance.
It is the Holy Spirit that gives them "wisdom and hopefulness" (p. 2) for the work they have chosen. The Holy Spirit raised them all from dullness in life to
radiance. If they do not feel the Holy Spirit, they should not be in the work of an ordained minister. In this lecture, Spurgeon also gives his students several ways
in which they may find the help the Holy Spirit is giving them. Spurgeons second lecture is entitled, "the Necessity of Ministerial Progress." This lesson encourages his students to
always be going forward, to learn more, to become more capable for the work they are dong, to work for more gifts from God. He even tells his students that
they must learn and use good English because if they use poor grammar the audience will remember that and not the Gospel lesson they are delivering. They should seek knowledge
in all fields because each contains treasures of information. The third lesson is entitled, "The Need of Decision for the Truth." He is referring to the Bible, which is truth
and truth cannot be changed. They are not supposed to switch it around so that it is more palatable. Preachers must preach the truth because people will not be saved
