late that every approach and possible theory regarding education be examined in light of the poor education most people receive in public schools across America. There is a serious problem
with our systems today and it appears that all forms of new theories and approaches are constantly on the forefront of the mind of public education. Schools try to boost
levels of education by making a school a year round school, or they attempt to improve situations by eliminating all but the academic concerns. Some schools even go so far
as to perhaps implement an additional special 8th grade for those students who did not pass some proficiency test and therefor are required to redo their 8th grade. And, rather
than make them be perhaps ashamed in their old school, they create a secondary school just for those students who did not pass. Needless to say, our education system in
this country is not in the best shape it could be, nor perhaps the best shape it has been. In the book "Learning Together: A History of Coeducation in American
Schools" by David Tyack and Elisabeth Hansot is a book which presents us with a very intriguing look into why our education system has gone the way it has of
late, and that some of these changes, and perhaps problems, can be related to issues of gender in regards to coeducation. Learning Together From the very beginning, with
the title of the book, we are made to be aware that coeducation has perhaps always been a part of the American way of life, without our even being aware
of it. We merely take it for granted that both genders have been included in public schools, and that only through purposeful intent are males and females taught separately. In
