the last fifty years since the conclusion of what many hopefully have named "The Last World War". In the early 1980s, economists Milton and
Rose Friedman published an article on the essentiality of economic freedom for the existence of political freedom which we know to be one of the key underlying promises of "The
American Dream". The Freidmans illustrate how the creation and evolution of the United States are both political and economic miracles. Mentioned are immigrants who came to
this country in hopes of economic and political freedom yet found neither of them waiting with open arms immediately upon their arrival. I can relate to this even in
the twentieth century as many of my friends have come here both alone as well as with family to pursue their dreams and to escape nightmares. Just as with
the nations newcomers, in the articles, my freinds and their families worked hard on their own to make their dreams become a successful reality. The article by the Friedmans
also points out how many of our countries great inner-struggles and conflicts have been decided on interpretations of two early, colonial works; The Wealth of Nations and The Declaration of
Independence. Economic and political freedom in the sense explained by these two documents did exist to create a "Golden Age" in the United States during the
