had to recognize that individuals from varied cultures learn in distinct ways, often use various intelligences and concentrate on different elements within the correctional model. One of the primary
challenges for nursing professionals in the modern day correctional facility is to gain an understanding of the individual differences in cognitive processing and the implications for program development and for
the providing of services to adult correctional populations. Learner Characteristics in the Correction Facility In understanding the characteristics of nursing professionals in the correctional facility and the learner characteristics,
it is beneficial to consider views of the different types of learners and their process of information adaptation. The notion of brain-compatibility in the learning process and the link
between elements of the educational model have been supported by a number of theorists, and have been applied to both the perspectives on computer use in public education and in
institutions of higher learning attempting to meet the needs of a varied learner population. Herrold (1989), for example, argued that learners must be allowed to learn in an environment
that allows them to experience learning, rather than just present information, and this defines the educational approach recognized as brain-compatibility (Herrold, 1989). Learners who are taught based on a
variety of educational models that underscore learning as an element of individual nature as well as cultural and social variables have a tendency to do better in assessments and demonstrate
a higher degree of applicable knowledge than learners who are taught in educational settings that "teach to the test" (Herrold, 1989). The concept of brain-compatibility in the educational model requires
a recognition of some significant premises, including the integration of at least one of the basic "research derived" compatibility concepts: 1. the brain is an organ of learning;
