and leaders do overlap but they are different. Leaders have a vision of where to take the organization. Managers coordinate to assure the vision is realize. Muczyk and Adler (2002)
said that leadership and management "are two distinctive, albeit complementary systems of action" (p. 2). Leaders chart the course and managers navigate. Numerous lists of traits related to effective leaders
and effective managers have been written. In 2007, the American Library Association attempted to collate and summarize these traits. They determined there are seven categories of traits related to effective
leadership: Communication, Intellectual/Intelligence, Physical, Emotional, Social, Experience, Trustworthy (American Library Association, 2007). The specific traits most often associated with effective leadership are: has a clear vision and is able
to communicate it (American Library Association, 2007); intelligence and a desire for continued learning (American Library Association, 2007); emotional stability and well-adjusted, including self-confidence American Library Association, 2007); enthusiasm, honest
and ethical; experience and competence; tough-minded which is about being logical and practical (Kautz, 2007); possesses excellent communication skills allowing the leader to communicate vision and purpose American Library Association,
2007); practical and logical (Kautz, 2007); has almost unlimited energy (Kautz, 2007); has great intuition, which is needed in todays changing market (American Library Association, 2007); has charisma and
