There is a rather minute distinction when discussing incoming employees as while they do not want to be told what to do exactly, it is not as if they are unwilling to learn. They want "to be taught, not directed" (Kennedy, 1998). Everyone knows that the old autocracy is out, so Kennedys (1998) thinking is not all that different from mainstream thought. Kennedy (1998) accentuates the fact that younger workers do not care about the reputation of the boss. Older workers are cognizant of the politics. Kennedy is right on target with this idea as Generations X and Y are less likely to care about image. These are more honest generations that gravitate toward equity and transparency. The old ways of doing things are out. One complaint is that younger workers -in this case, young physicians-refuse to attend meetings (Kennedy, 1998). Much of the article points to differences in the age categories. Many are clich?, but some are actually unknown entities. Kennedy (1998) makes good points, but the work is not the be all and end all of corporate politics. Rather, she provides one aspect of politics which is to pay attention to generational differences. Kennedy talks about the older physicians who are in higher-level roles. They are the ones who are grooming the up and coming physicians and they teach them about the political milieu. Towards the end of the article, Kennedy (1998) says: "Leadership roles have become service opportunities that may lead to personal power.
