culture of the airline, which looks after its employees and developed a culture unity and cooperation. However, even Southwest have had problems in the second quarter of 2009 the firm
returned to a profit after two quarters of losses (Dallas Morning News, 2009). In the difficult environment even this is a good performance. However the organization is facing some
challenges, the company has been very successful at innovation in the past, the firm pioneered the concept of the low cost airline, pursued the ticketless system to reduce costs and
maybe one of the only airlines where pilots may be happy to help the staff unload luggage and undertake other tasks if needed in order to turn the aircraft around.
However, the industry is changing; the harsh economic climate has seen other airlines have had to reduce their costs, and as such the cost advantage has been eroded, in addition
to this many of the measures take by the airline to help reduce costs have been emulated. In addition to this the airline has faced some challenged, such as the
fine in 2003 for failure to deal fairly with disabled customers. To assess the way that change may be implemented and how this is linked to leadership the firm
itself should be considered to assess how they may adapt and the way leadership and the resulting culture will aid with the changes. The airlines main advantage when it
