be successful in the world today. Thus, education and experience are important in the scheme of things. That is, someone who wants to secure a leadership role in business, in
the church, in government or in any other area would benefit from both experience and education. Many students graduate high school and then decide where to go as they pursue
their higher education careers. Many schools do support coursework in leadership under various departments. Some students major in business and others in politics if they have a desire to
lead. In a lecture on leadership given to students of Harvard University early in the twentieth century, Charles Henry Brent (1907) said: "Education is no synonym for intellectualism, barren and
aloof from the hurly-burly of productive activity. It is the coordination of all the gifts that endow mankind and the putting them into shape for broad and effective use; it
is the discovering of man to himself, his place in the social order, his responsibility, his opportunity, his liberty" (p. 10). Education is important in the creation of effective leaders.
People seek education in order to gain knowledge in a specific subject area or just as a general manner of self-improvement. Today, people do go to college simply for
a two or four year degree, something that puts them ahead of candidates with only a high school diploma. Yet, there are curriculums and degrees that help when it comes
