this volume, Richard Marcinko applies leadership in war to leadership in business. The book is broken down into ten chapters, each looking at a different "commandment" that will turn a mediocre manager into someone who will be able to forcefully lead his underlings. The first leadership secret, as laid out in this work, is to "lead from the front" (Marcinko 13). The author claims that too many leaders are content to lead from the power of their office, and not from what is within them (14). In other words, they lead with the powers given them by the company for which they work but do not dig deep down and take all that they have to truly lead their personnel well. The second commandment goes to equality or perhaps an anti-equality message, which is to have employees prove themselves, something that has been considered too negative in todays business climate (Marcinko 34). The author suggests that it makes perfect sense for someone to have to prove themselves before they get respect. They must earn it. This concept is something that goes to old-fashioned values. The third commandment is "Thou shalt do nothing I will not do first, and thus will you be created Warriors in My deadly image" (45). What does the author mean by this? It is something written in language that seems to suggest a serious commandment is being waged, but the author really only means that the executive must set a good example because the do as I say dictum and not as I do does not seem to work. The fourth commandment is "I shall punish thy bodies because the more thou sweatest in training, the less thou bleedest in combat" (Marcinko 57) .
