Defining quality leadership is problematic, unfortunately. This is because there are a multitude of competing models of leadership that often seem to contradict and undermine one another. This paper analyzes
each of the major models of leadership and understand how the models converge with one another in many respects. Trait leadership, situational leadership, charismatic leadership, and transformational leadership provide topics
for close examination. The paper compares fundamental premises of each model with the other models in order to determine which aspects of each model are most advantageous. For instance, the
paper contains an analysis of the effectiveness of certain leadership characteristics in the context of their situational utility in a healthcare context. It outlines the risks of charismatic leadership, especially
in regards to a healthcare industry which cites lack of motivation and turnover as major concerns. Consequently, it also assesses the capacity of transformational leadership to temper these risks while
providing similar charismatic and situational benefits. Ultimately, a flexible adoption of the situational benefits of each of the major leadership models likely provides the most competitive benefit to contemporary healthcare
