most valuable brand on earth. This paper discusses his leadership style. Discussion For someone to have the success that Welch had means that he has as many detractors as he
has fans. In his quest to turn GE around, he let hundreds of thousands of employees go, which did not endear him to them. In addition, he has shown no
concern over the disparity between his executives salaries and those of the lower echelon workers; in fact, reading over Byrnes account of his leadership skills, it seems as if Welch
seeks few opinions from anyone not in management. That would tend to put him out of touch with the rank-and-file. However, when it comes to inspiring his executives, he has
done a fantastic job; in fact, most of them copy him, so that all across the many entities that comprise GE, things are done in much the same way, because
thats the way Jack would do it if he were there. Whether or not one likes this strategy, it has paid off handsomely. Leadership characteristics: If theres one thing that
stands out from all the rest, its Welchs energy; the man is a dynamo who never stops moving (Bryne). He is always on the road, going to see the various
