is difficult to tell who is a great leader until many years have passed. At other times, a leaders greatness exudes and people are clear that they are witnessing something
powerful in action. Great leaders of the past include Napoleon Bonaparte and George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. In examining leadership, several leaders of the twentieth century stand out: Adolf Hitler,
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Mahatma Gandhi and Chiang Kai-Shek. Each of these leaders in their own right changed politics and transformed some part of the world. Each of these
leaders was driven by something and achieved many goals. In examining what these five leaders of the twentieth century contributed, and their ethical positions, it is possible to extract
leadership qualities. Why do these men stand out? What have they achieved that is considered special? A look at their legacies, their contributions, their desires and so forth, can help
distinguish character traits that are aligned with good leadership. II. The Importance of Leadership Leadership is quite important in terms of the transformation of society. Leaders give
people hope and vision. For example, during the Reagan eighties, people became excited about living. Although it was dubbed the decade of greed, the fact that people were able to
be financially successful had seemingly transformed a generation. Of course, Reagan was a transformational leader. There are different types of leadership and charisma plays a role in each. For
example, transformational leadership is different from dictatorial, or Machiavellian, leadership. The former is related to a leader who is able to transform the thinking and souls of the people.
