on leadership and leading. Yet, as this paper will demonstrate, a good follower demonstrates certain behaviors just as a good leader does. Warren Bennis (2008, p. 4) commented that studies
of followers have been forgotten and it is more important than ever to understand what good followership is. It is also important to recognize the importance of followers. Lusier and
Achua (2007, p. 255) wrote that the success of an organization is mostly attributed to its leaders, forgetting the necessary contributions of the followers. As Khan (2007) said, "Behind the
success of every great leader is the support, hard work and invisible struggle of many unknown people who are known as the followers." For example, Nelson Mandela and Alexander the
Great would not have become such great personalities who accomplished so much if they had not had excellent followers. A great leader needs great followers to put their
ideas and plans into action. This premise reached the literature as a primary topic only recently. Bennis (2008, p. 4) thinks the catalyst for this interest in followers and in
the leader-follower dynamic may be the result of so many leaders doing the wrong things. We know that people will follow people they respect, trust, and like (Changing Minds 2010c).
