Organizational politics are those events where power is being sought and when conflicts erupt. They are about reconciling completing interests (Ratzburg, 2008). Every employee has their own interests and
desires. They each have their own objectives and they want to satisfy those needs and wants. Policies and operational procedures mitigate the striving to obtain whatever is wanted. This is
why rules are important. There must be some automatic way to reconcile these differences (Ratzburg, 2008). It is too easy to get caught up in the politics in the company.
Sun offered ten tips to stay out of and to avoid negative politics. The first is to "live at peace with others" and he is correct, this is the easiest
way to avoid problems (Sun, 2009). This person does not choose sides, he or she just focuses on what they need to do. The second is also good: "Dont talk
out of school" (Sun, 2009). Dont repeat what others have told you and do not say negative things about the company outside of it (Sun, 2009). Alongside of this
is not to repeat gossip and do not engage in gossip (Sun, 2009). Gossip is different than rumors. Kennedy (1998) suggests that when a leader hears a rumor, he or
she should act on it. Find out if its true and do what needs to be done (Kennedy, 1998). Be helpful is the third tip (Sun, 2009). This just
