Even when one piece of information remains protected on a single PC, for example, there is room for violation. That is, data may be thought of as very important in
the scheme of things and there are laws today to protect such data. This is true in order to protect the integrity of data, but also to protect the reputation
of individuals to which the information is attached. People like to protect their privacy and in an increasingly "connected" world, this has proved to be problematic. Yet, laws are
designed to protect privacy as well as the improper use of data, and these are very important in going forward in a world surrounded by electronic information. Some important laws
to be covered are the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the Computer Security Act, the Patriot Act, HIPAA, Sarbanes Oxley, and finally, the Federal Information Security Management Act.
II. Computer Fraud and Abuse Act This law was created during the 1980s as computer fraud would grow and there was a lack of
appropriate criminal laws to address such issues ("Computer Fraud and Abuse Act," 2009). The laws were apparently necessary because the ordinary regulations pertinent to criminal issues were not sufficient to
address computer fraud. To an extent, wire and mail fraud issues were addressed in the past and they do fulfill some needs of computer dilemmas, but clearly something more was
necessary ("Computer Fraud and Abuse Act," 2009). Hence the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act was born, something that would undergo revisions as things changed on the Internet and also in
