community efforts to prison and the justice system of the nation, the legal system of the nation can impact people in many different ways. The following paper examines some issues
that can affect many people. The paper presents a (hypothetical) examination of a community problem and the solution to that problem through a law enforcement initiative. The paper then examines
the real conditions involving prison overcrowding as it relates to the war on drugs. Lastly the paper briefly examines the subject of the privatization of prisons. Law Enforcement
Initiative The hypothetical issue under examination is the problem associated with stray dogs in the community. While this discussion will involve a hypothetical situation it is a very real problem
in many communities, it is an issue that often involves law enforcement, and the situations is based on the real need in many communities to reduce the amount of stray
dogs. This particular community had a very serious problem with stray dogs that were essentially packing together and terrorizing people, livestock, and endangering people and other animals. Most of
these dogs belonged to people who simply let them out and let them roam as they desired. Some were actually feral dogs that were born and lived in the wild.
While the region was relatively rural and it ultimately existed on the outskirts of the county, with many dirt roads and limited access, it was becoming such a problem that
the attention of law enforcement through animal control was called in by members of the community. At that point a child had been attacked and several individuals had suffered loss
