premise for actions and behaviors. Controversies over the teachings of Lao Tzu and Confucius and the development of their discourses on love, humility, peace and non-aggression have persisted even
in the midst of their widespread application. (Chung, 1997). A comparison of the two philosophical, cultural and religious traditions will promote a knowledge of the nature of these controversies,
that will allow for a greater understanding of these two important teachers and their works. It should be recognized at the onset of any comparison that includes the works of
Lao Tzu, especially the "Tao Te Ching" that questions of the authorship of this particular work have been a major element in cultural speculation, suggesting that Lao Tzu himself may
not have authored the totality work, which appears to be based in a number of different sometimes seemingly fragmented sections (Chung, 1997). It also has been argued that the
"Tao Te Ching" might not have been written from a solely philosophical or religious perspective, but also is applicable to social and political processes, including the social and political disinvolvement
(Chung, 1997) that were necessitated within the lessons of both leaders. The writings of Lao Tzu, which were essentially the foundation for Taoism, have been linked the principles
related to Buddhism, especially as they relate to the simplicity of man and mans link with the natural world. The "Tao Te Ching" outlines a complex set of philosophical
