used in the modern world we can look to the past and ask whether the development of language in the forms that we know today have really been advantageous to
humans in furthering their understanding of the world. Language is unique to the human species. Communications is seen in all species, but it is only humans that are able
to create a narrative concerning theoretical concepts (MacWhinney, 2005). It is not only the construction of language that appears to be unique to humans, this is also seen with the
creation of clothes and tools, such as axe and arrow heads (MacWhinney, 2005). Just as the arrowhead and clothes are tools, language
may also be perceived as a tool that has been used to control and manage the social environment. If looking at language development and the way this may have helped
with the understanding of the world. Religions claim it is a divine gift (MacWhinney, 2005), however, the tracing of the development of language can prove to be difficult when seeking
to correlation language and the development of a wider understanding of the world (dErrico et al, 2003). To asses this we need to look back to the development of
language and the way it was used with symbols and even with myths. There are several theories concerning the development of language and symbols. The models attempt to explain the
development of human cognition with the key drivers or influences being the consideration of the adaptive processes or the environmental factors that facilitated and influenced the spread of language (dErrico
