Consultation. This is the process by which managers assess individual cases and social workers requests for services use. Service

In social psychology, the social worker may encourage an alcoholics family to seek humanistic self-improvement while addressing his/her own efforts to the alcoholic. It
is the alcoholics behavior that needs to change, as well as that of family members in their reactions - and codependency - to the alcoholics behavioral issues (Davies, 1997).
In this context, both approaches have relevance to social psychology within social work. The most commonly used is cognitive-behavioral therapy in that it
is the approach that is most direct in altering behavior that is problematic. Once behavior has been altered so that it is acceptable in the view of society -
the alcoholic ceases drinking, the child abuser finds other outlets for his frustration - then a humanistic approach can be of value in heightening self worth and self esteem.
