to another. This seems to be the theme and the idea behind Loma Croziers poem: Calm. Upon first reading of this poem the idea that the narrator is speaking about
death is not evident. However, when one looks at the word choice and the effect that this calm has on everyone, it becomes evident that the poet is speaking about
moment of death. When the Wind Stops How strange it is Everything as still
As the end of a concert Before applause Ripples the air(Crozier).
In these first lines it is evident that the author is speaking of death. The wind stops, everything is still, and it is the end of a
concert. All of these imply a cessation to something which was once vital and moving. And, yet, the poets perspective also shows through. This is only a pause, not a
complete cessation, but only a momentary stoppage. Used to the keening of the wind Those of us on Main street
pause, heads tilted as if trying to hear someone softly
speaking in another room(Crozier). In this passage it is clear that the everyone has been affected by this calm, at
least those who are with the author on main street. Main street is synonymous with life. And yet, everything on main street, for them, has stopped. It is a curiosity
