harsh comments was the portrayal of a horrific circumstance as a comedy. However, those who would view the movie for its underlying themes and messages, would find that the utilization of comedic relief allowed the documentary to be viewed in another completely different perspective; the idea that one can make life beautiful no matter where one finds oneself and that finding beauty in life has a transforming ability even in the middle of a death camp. The movie is depicted in two sections. The first section comprises the courtship of Dora and Guido and the start of the perfect life. However, this perfect life will not last long as the horrors of World War II will intrude upon their lives. What this first section intends to do, and accomplishes, is the introduction of the characters, and to make an emotional attachment with those characters. The recurring motif is present in the first section as well, when Guido is shown as he performs feats of magic for Dora. The theme being: a person has the power to create his own reality and to find beauty wherever he has a mind and the determination to do so. This is very important, because this love and laughter will come into play in the second section of the film. Film is an emotional medium. And, like it or not, critics withstanding, movies are not really judged by how much they make us think about an issue, but rather how they made us feel. It doesnt matter what kind of movie it is.
