When it came to consumer use, the main theme was "caveat emptor," in other words, and let the buyer beware. As we move further into the 21st century however, things have changed. While manufacturing plants may still not be too comfortable for employees, very few people hear about lung rot or any other on the job injury. Thanks to government regulations, employee unions and even corporations themselves, workers have a higher degree of safety than they did during the early 1900s. But what cost has the safety been to companies? In addition, how will factors such as strict liability, federal fines and sentencing guidelines impact operation management during the 21st century? In order to answer these questions, we will first examined what operations management is. We will then discuss the concepts of strict liability, as well as federal fines and sentencing. We will then examine how corporations are self-policing themselves for more accountability -- and how this action will likely carry over into the 2000s.
