to all the shopping one could ever want would have been simply a dream or a fantasy. However, thanks to the Internet, most consumers can do that today. In response
to the demand for convenience (which is what purchases over the Internet provide to consumers), more and more businesses are going on-line to try to satisfy the demand of old
consumers and to try to attract new ones. Having said that, however, what are some of the legal and social issues that
these on-line "e-tailers" face? Because the Internet and cyberspace are still so new to both consumer and e-tailer, its almost like a
new frontier of sales and purchasing. In that sense, laws are still being formulated, while the social impact of cyberspace, the World Wide Web and the Internet still continue to
be debated. From a social stance, the Internet has widened the range of communities to which individuals can belong - these are "virtual" societies that are unrestricted by international
boundaries (Ramin Communications, 1998). However, the Internet does continue to challenge the jurisdictions of international boundaries and government influence and control in areas such as infrastructure, access, trade, taxation, legislation
and regulation (Ramin Communications, 1998). Along these lines, privacy still continues to be a huge social issue when it comes to e-tailing (Ramin Communications, 1998). There are concerns about "name
harvesting" when it comes to ordering on-line, not to mention the concerns about credit card hackers. From a social perspective, in general,
