in this regard. One challenge when it comes to learning teams, for example, is the problem of lack of communication (Gibbons, 1999). Gibbons,
for example, points out that at times, it can be difficult to share knowledge across business units; meaning that the departments tend to, in his words, "go down essentially similar
paths an not share with each other what theyve learned about customers, markets and processes" (26). There are typically two reasons for this; one being that knowledge-sharing has not yet
taken hold in the organization, and the other is fear of revealing trade secrets. So one weakness, perhaps, would be the fact that the student must be willing to learn
from the experiences of others, and then turn around and share his or her experiences with team members. On the opposite side, perhaps
a strength to take into consideration might be the ability of this student to lead the team because he or she might have good ideas or even a charismatic quality.
Perhaps this student is a good team member because he/she can encourage in a very positive manner. One weakness might be an inability
to understand what Gibbons calls a "mental model," which is defined as the method by which the team views the world, which impacts decisions and then actions. If there isnt
a connection between the world view and action, then the student -- and his/her team, for that matter -- wont have much luck or success with their endeavors.
