The article "You Are Your Brand: Defining a Personal Leadership Style" discusses the fact that "branding" helps clarify a leaders goal and role
to the employees, while helping the leader keep the job in perspective. According to Ulrich (2007) leadership brand helps create value for a
firm by differentiating the firms quality of management from those of other firms. Ulrich further goes on to note that leadership brands guide the companys direction, are measureable, can be
learned and can help integrate management practices (2007). But its said that while leaders understand the importance of branding for their products or companies, few have figured out that branding
a leadership style is just as important (Hollander, 2003). But what, exactly, is a brand? Basically defined, a brand can either be
1) a distinctive trademark or name that identifies a manufacturer; 2) a very well-identified (and well-known) product or service; or c) a distinctive category (Brand, 2010). Branding, when it comes
to leadership, isnt all that different - as mentioned above, a leadership brand differentiates the leader from others, gives him or her a distinction from other leaders that employees (and
hopefully customers) will think about in a positive light. But there is more to branding of any kind - whether product, service or
