managers, by their very nature are considered leaders. And leaders, for the most part, manage their constituents. But are these two
the same thing? Do they have definitions that can be interchanged? Though many of the scholarly business papers still tend to use "management" and "leadership management" when it comes to
writings, more and more, every day business writers are finding that there are differences between these two concepts. To better understand their differences, it would be first helpful to define
them. Leadership, in its most basic form, is defined as "the act of motivating a group of people to act toward achieving
a common goal" (Ward, 2007). Basically, leaders are there to inspire, to motivate, to direct. (Ward, 2007). The leader is the person in a group, company or organization, or even
a head of a nation that has the personality, the charisma and the persuasion that encourages others to follow this persons vision (Ward, 2007). Leadership involves communication and inspiration (Ward,
2007). In politics, President Ronald Reagan was considered a great leader. He inspired a passion among citizens - whether people loved him
or hated him, they had to admit he was the guiding light of the nation. Problem was, Reagan was a rotten manager,
which is where we get to the difference between the two terms. Management can be defined as "the process of leading
